PGCE(M) 14+ Performance & Creative Arts

If you’re experienced within the creative arts industry and passionate about inspiring the next generation of performers and creatives, then this 1 year course offers you the skills and knowledge needed to teach ages 14 and above in this demanding and ever-evolving sector, alongside developing and nurturing you own creative identity as a teacher. This PGCE (M) course is 120 credits at master’s level (HE7), demonstrating your ability to work independently at a high level in the field of education. 90 credits at HE7 can be transferred to a full master’s award, depending on the specialist masters pathway.

This is a pre-service Initial Teacher Education (ITE) course – you don’t need prior experience of teaching or current employment in education. Through a combination of traditional study and work-based learning, you’ll be able to explore the key theories and techniques of teaching, learning and assessment. We’ll support you as you discover how to apply these in practice, how you can mould them to the teaching of dance and how they link into current research in education and dance education.

In addition to working in HE, FE colleges, sixth form colleges and schools there are also significant opportunities to work in a range of other educational sectors. The work-based learning sector ensures people are ready for employment and have the latest skills. Delivered in partnership with The University of Bolton, this programme meets the requirement recognised by the Society for Education & Training (SET) and upon successful completion of this course, students may undertake professional formation in order to be awarded Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status by SET.

  • This course involves working unsupervised with children and/or vulnerable young people and adults and you must gain an Enhanced Disclosure certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before starting your studies.
